As a result of the major oil companies (called Operators) coming together to
standardize the Basic Orientation safety training, they
determined that the questionnaire and audits they were sending
out to contractors could also be standardized. As a result
in 1996 they agreed upon a questionnaire and the Standardized
Safety Questionnaire (SSQ) was born.
The SSQ was sent out as a hard copy at first and moved to an
electronic copy in 1997. Today, the SSQ is a web-based
on-line questionnaire database application that can be accessed
from any Internet capable computer. Participation in the SSQ is free to the
Contractors.
